Random Thoughts on Various Subjects 30

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
HENNY YOUNGMAN

1. SNOWFLAKE REBELLION

Donald Trump won, and the losers can't deal with it. I watch as people cry, protest, and riot. These people are a disgrace to this nation. They should all move to Canada as they promised, but I doubt Canada would take them. But they got one thing right. They don't belong in America.

If you are mad and upset and can't accept Donald Trump as your president, don't let the door hit you on the way out of this country. And when you leave, know that your exit has already made America great again.

2. POPE FRANCIS

The Holy Father continues to infuriate the faithful who patiently endure his folly. First, he castigates young people who favor the Latin Mass. Then, he praises Communists. Finally, he has indicated to the persecuted Chinese Catholics that he is willing to betray them by colluding with the Chinese government over the selection of prelates. This is just the latest stuff. I don't need to repeat his desire to allow adulterers to take communion, embracing Muslims with open arms, and hitting the mute button on abortion and sodomy.

I pray daily for renewal in the Roman Catholic Church, but this disastrous pontificate indicates to me that this renewal will be from the bottom up instead of from the top down. We owe allegiance to the Vicar of Christ, but we can still resist him to his face when he errs as St. Paul did to St. Peter. Popes are sinners, too.

3. PARDONS

Talk is being tossed around about a presidential pardon for Hillary Clinton. This is a stupid idea. Of course, Obama loves stupid ideas, so this might be the last thing he does in the few minutes he has left as POTUS. A pardon for Clinton sends the message that you can run a vast criminal conspiracy and get away with it. The entire Clinton clan belongs in jail.

A pardon for Edward Snowden is something to consider. Yes, Snowden broke the law, but he did it for no personal gain but for the good of the country. People can debate what he did, but I think his intentions were pure. Plus, he has benefited us in what he did. If Obama pardoned him, it would probably be a good thing. But if it turned out that Snowden gave secrets to the Russians, that is another matter entirely. Pardons can be specific, so Snowden's pardon can be limited to his good actions. The rest can be prosecuted when they are discovered. As it stands, a Snowden pardon would bring the man back here to the USA and away from the Russians. The irony is that Obama will probably pardon Hillary before Snowden.

A pardon for Julian Assange is another matter. Assange is not a US citizen, and he is wanted for questioning for crimes in another country. A pardon would do nothing for Assange except give him assurance that he would not be extradited to the USA. Does he deserve a pardon? That is debatable. Assange is essentially a man without a country. When Ecuador no longer wants to use him, he will be on the streets of London where they will take him away. Assange merely shows that it is never a good idea to bite the hand that feeds you. As it stands, he is a prisoner.

A pardon for Bradley Manning would be a bad idea because I do not believe Manning acted from pure motives. He was basically mad at the Army because he is messed up in the head over his sexuality and gender identity. Should he be released from prison and the Army, he would commit suicide within a week. He will live longer in the stockade.

I believe pardons should be reserved for people who messed up in their lives but went on to do good later. One of those people is Robert Downey. Another is Mark Wahlberg. Pardons for contrite people who do good sends the message that you can be forgiven for your past, but it isn't a cheap forgiveness. I don't think Nixon should have been pardoned. We will have to see what Obama does, but I suspect he will let the good suffer while letting criminals like Hillary off the hook.

4. Q & A

Q: Where have you been?!

A: I have been working and traveling. I am a godfather for the second time, and it is a job I take seriously praying always for my niece and nephews. As for work, the 16 hour day is not unusual for me. Then, there is apostolate which I don't talk about because it is apostolate. Always hide your good works. Always display your penance. Other than that, my absence here has been to laziness. Others would say that I was exhausted, but I always feel that I could do more. I have never lived up to my potential.

5. THINGS THAT NEED TO BE SAID

If it wasn't for the NBA, we would have a lot of tall janitors.

6. ODDS AND ENDS

--Mike Pence is turning out to be an awesome pick for VP. He is more like Cheney instead of Biden, and Trump coming from a business background needs the help.

--Ben Carson for Surgeon General. It's a no-brainer.

--It was a bad idea for the Democrat Party to let Hillary steal it from Bernie. Then again, the Democrat Party is a bad idea.

--The Trump M.O. is to talk hard on the issues but compromise on the details. This is why people come to the table angry and leave smiling.

7. QUOTABLE QUOTES

Get going. Move forward. Aim High. Plan a takeoff. Don't just sit on the runway and hope someone will come along and push the airplane. It simply won't happen. Change your attitude and gain some altitude. Believe me, you'll love it up here.
DONALD TRUMP

Maybe history wouldn't have to repeat itself if we listened once in awhile.
WYNNE MCLAUGHLIN

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.
OSCAR WILDE

So many books, so little time.
FRANK ZAPPA

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
