Random Thoughts on Various Subjects 15

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
STEVEN WRIGHT

1. HILLARY

Hillary Clinton clinches the Democratic nomination and proves to be historic not because she is the first woman to do so but may end up also being the first person to become president while under criminal indictment. It's a brave new world, folks. Meanwhile, I recommend that Bernie Sanders consider the offer to run on the Green Party ticket.

I do not support the socialism of Bernie Sanders, but I respect that the man is principled even if those principles are stupid. But a Bernie Sanders third party run would have two benefits. The first is that it would allow his good ideas about reining in corrupt banksters to receive more airing. The second is that it would torpedo Hillary and throw the election to Trump. I feel the Bern.

2. BREXIT

How can anyone see the mess in Greece and not believe their country would be better off out of the EU? The Brits are facing this decision now as they decide whether to remain in the EU or leave. The smartest thing they ever did was refuse to surrender the English pound in favor the euro. Now, they may do the next smart thing and pull out. This begs a question. Are you better off being part of a larger entity or remaining independent? This is a deep question.

In the USA, the state most likely to secede from the Union is Texas. Texas has a large independence movement and is making moves to establish its own gold reserve. It is unlikely that Texas would secede at this present time, but it could become a possibility if the US dollar collapsed. The faith in a government of any size is relative to its ability to pay its bills. This is why a Brexit is a possibility where a Grexit is not. The Greek government will never pay its bills, so it wants to piggyback on the Germans welfare-style. The Brits can pay their own way.

The other aspect of the Brexit beyond the economic is the fact the EU permits and encourages the migration of Muslim savages into Christian countries and basically allow unfettered rape and murder. Some part of the British psyche still retains a bit of common sense on this, but they have their own multicultural problems to deal with. My hope is that the UK will make a turn to the right, exit the EU, and expel the Muslim horde from their shores. But I won't hold my breath.

3. CHRISTINA GRIMMIE

Grimmie was a singer on The Voice who was recently shot dead by some nutjob who then killed himself. The tragedy of the Grimmie murder is that it highlights a problem I have mentioned many times. One of the worst things that can happen to a person is for that person to become famous without becoming rich. I will elaborate.

Fame has a high price. People may envy celebrities, but they shouldn't. Celebrities can't use public restrooms because fans mob them while trying to use the toilet. Seriously. They can't wear white clothes because they become polka dotted from Sharpie wielding fans seeking autographs. And their mailboxes are routinely filled with threatening letters from deranged people seeking to do grievous harm to them and their families. And, then, some of those deranged nuts actually succeed in making good on their threats.

Generally, famous people are also rich, so they can afford bodyguards, drivers, and zones of privacy to shield them from the world. But we now have people who become famous without that wealth and are unable to pay for protection. The result is that they become vulnerable targets for the world. You should never desire fame because it isn't worth it. Be a nobody and learn to appreciate the comforts of anonymity.

4. MUHAMMAD ALI, RIP

There's not much I can say about Ali except to say that he was the last great fighter of all time. Every heavyweight champion after him seems like some kind of postscript in much the same way that basketball now lives in the perpetual shadow of Michael Jordan. My personal opinion was that he was the greatest fighter that ever lived.

The real issue with Ali was not whether he was great but whether he was humble. As Ali put it, "At home I am a nice guy: but I don’t want the world to know. Humble people, I’ve found, don’t get very far." Ali's mouth was bigger than his fighting. As such, it is hard to celebrate the man's life when he made such a mockery of humility. It was ironic that he spent the last part of his life with his mouth firmly closed.

This recent ruling on a "non-binary" or "genderqueer" person shows the bold new future of progressive stupidity that is coming to the USA. Basically, someone who is genderfluid can decide to use a women's restroom during the five minutes it takes for him to identify as female. When he leaves after ogling women doing their business, he can fluidly revert back to identifying as a male. It just gets nuttier by the day, folks.

6. Q & A

Q: What Is Your Greatest Accomplishment?

A: I made it to 40. I did it by not dying. The credit for everything else belongs to others.

7. QUOTABLE QUOTES

I want to warn you against a difficulty that may arise: it is the temptation of weariness and discouragement. Isn't it still fresh in your memory what life -- your old life -- used to be like, with no aim to it, no purpose, no sparkle, and then, with God's light and your own dedication, a new direction was given to it and you were filled with joy? Don't be so silly as to exchange your new life for that other one.--St. Josemaria Escriva

But even when I am afraid, I keep on trusting you. --Psalm 56:3

The rich man who gives to the poor does not bestow alms but pays a debt.--St. Ambrose of Milan
